TOPEKA (KSNT) - One K-State Wildcat and two Kansas Jayhawks are among preseason candidates for the 2024 Doak Walker Award.
K-State running back DJ Giddens made the list, as did KU running backs Devin Neal and Daniel Hishaw Jr. The Doak Walker award is given annually to the top running back in the nation, and also requires good academic standing.
K-State's Giddens, who's now a junior, started in all 13 games for the Wildcats in 2023, rushing for 1,226 yards and 10 touchdowns on 223 carries.
KU's Neal, who's entering his senior season, finished 2023 with 1,280 rushing yards and 16 touchdowns, the second-most in a single season in school history. Hishaw, a redshirt-junior, played in all 13 games in 2023, tallying 626 rushing yards and eight touchdowns of his own.
It's the second preseason award watchlist Giddens and Neal have been named to, as both players are candidates for the Maxwell award, presented to the most outstanding player in college football.
