Amid some speculation Donald Trump might try to replace him, Republican vice-presidential nominee JD Vance was asked on Tuesday if he would debate Vice President Kamala Harris's just-announced running mate, Democratic Minnesota Governor Tim Walz.
Vance appeared to ignore or not hear the question as he headed into his plane Tuesday morning.
He told reporters he had called and left a message congratulating Gov. Walz.
Later, Senator Vance said he thought Governor Walz's record was a "joke," according to NBC News political reporter Allan Smith.

"Vance says he will debate Gov. Walz but will wait until after his nomination is official," Smith also reports.
“Would it shock me if the Democrats pulled another switcheroo? No it wouldn’t,” Vance reportedly alleged, referring to President Joe Biden's decision to end his re-election campaign.
Vance also claimed, wrongly, that Walz "has been one of the most far-left radicals in the entire United States government."
According to Govtrack.us, Walz's record as a U.S. Congressman is very centrist.
