The National Olympic Committee of Afghanistan announced that a three-member team from the National Taekwondo ITF Federation is heading to China for the Asia Championship Cup.
In a press release on Tuesday, August 6, the committee stated that the National Taekwondo ITF Federation’s team, in collaboration with the General Directorate of Physical Education and Sports of Afghanistan, will participate in the Asia Championship Cup.
The competition is scheduled to take place from August 6 to 8 in the city of Wuxi, China.
The Asia Championship Cup will feature athletes from eight countries across Central Asia competing against each other.
The farewell ceremony for this team was attended by Hafiz Ahmad Zadran, Technical and Vocational Deputy Head of the General Directorate of Physical Education and Sports of Afghanistan, and Hamidullah Safi, Acting Technical and Vocational Head of the Directorate, along with the athletes.
Despite ongoing humanitarian crises in Afghanistan, sports continue to serve as a beacon of hope and resilience for its people.
However, Afghan athletes face numerous challenges, including limited resources, security concerns, and international isolation, which often hamper their ability to train and compete effectively on a global stage.
