Team India will look to sign off from the Sri Lankan tour with a high by winning the third and final ODI match against Sri Lanka at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on Wednesday (August 7). India need to win the third ODI if they home to level the three-match series as they are 1-0 down in the series.
India and Sri Lanka tied the first ODI last week with Lankan skipper Charith Asalanka picking up the final two wickets with the score level on 230. In the second ODI, Team India got off to a whirlwind start – scoring 97 for no loss inside the first 14 over before collapsing to 208 all out to lose by 32 runs.
Skipper Rohit Sharma has been in sizzling form and looked class apart, scoring fifties in the first two ODIs. In the 2nd ODI, Rohit scored a 29-ball fifty before the rest of the India batting order collapsed to falter the chase.
India will be keen India’s previous bilateral ODI series defeat against the Islanders came in 1997. The Arjuna Ranatunga-led Lankans then inflicted a 0-3 hammering on Sachin Tendulkar and his men.
India will hope that former India captain Virat Kohli will finally find some form after missing out on the last two ODIs. Apart from Kohli, Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul – who both returned to the ODI line-up – have struggled to fire in both the matches.
