I found a ‘lazy hack’ for cleaning my makeup brushes & sponges – my $4 Target buy kills germs & saves my skin from zits
A MAKEUP fan has shared a low-effort trick that keeps their makeup brushes and sponges clean.
A cheap $4 Target buy prevents germs and zits without breaking the bank or taking too much time.
Redditor JadeGrapes shared the makeup cleansing tip in a post.
“I found a lazy hack for cleaning my brushes and Beautyblender,” they said.
They explained that they kept a squeezy bottle filled with rubbing alcohol and makeup wipes on their vanity.
The cleansing tools come in handy when they’re doing gel nails or need a quick wipe down of their makeup tools.
“I lay two makeup wipes on the desk, hold the Beautyblender in one hand over the wipe, and saturate the part with makeup on it,” they said.
“Any extra alcohol lands on the wipes; you want them soggy with the alcohol anyway.
“Then bounce the blender onto the wipes to push out the makeup.”
Repetition is key to getting the most makeup possible out of the sponge.
“Keep bouncing around until all the foundation comes off,” they said.
“Fold and flip over the wipes to get fresh white areas until basically nothing comes off. Then, set the blender aside to dry.”
The same technique works to get rid of product on their makeup brushes.
“I lay down a fresh wipe, spray that down with alcohol, and swirl and wiggle my blush brush around until no more pink comes off on the wipe,” they said.
“Repeat the process with all your brushes. Get out an extra wipe if you need more white surface.”
They used the same technique to get their makeup tools sparkling clean.
“Last step, pick up the wipe and clean off the eyelash curler,” they said.
“The brushes and blender dry in a couple of hours because alcohol evaporates so much faster than water.”
After sticking to the routine for a while, they began to see improvements in their skin.
“I have DEFINITELY noticed less skin irritation and whiteheads since I started doing this,” they said.
“That alcohol kills germs on the equipment.”
While they didn’t specify the exact brand of rubbing alcohol they preferred, those who want to try the hack can pick up a bottle of isopropyl 70% alcohol at Target for $4.
