From Toronto to Glasgow
Canadian Josiah Sowa’s desire to play in Europe was matched with Queen’s Park’s search for emerging talent and the teenager has joined Scotland’s oldest club on a three-year contract.
Josiah explained how the move came about when he said: “I was playing for North Toronto Nitros and, fortunately for me, there is a growing relationship between them and Queen’s Park.
“As a result of that connection Queen’s Park’s Director of Football, Darren O’Donnell invited me over on trial in February for two weeks. I returned home after the trial and then received an invitation to join shortly afterwards. I have been over in Glasgow for a month now.
“In Toronto it is hard to get into a First Team or turn professional. Coming to play in Europe was always a goal for me, and Queen’s Park has a very good reputation for promoting youngsters, so coming to Scotland was an easy choice.”
Spiders fans could be in for some excitement when Josiah plays as the newly turned 18-year-old said: “I would say I have lots of pace and good technically in the final third. I like to help the team from a wide position, a winger.”
Josiah who has settled in well to life in Glasgow, was joined by his parents Reggie and Dianne, for his official signing at the club, and he said: “I am enjoying Scotland. Everyone has made me feel very welcome. I am just 18 so it is a big move for me.
“I want to enjoy being here and helping the teams I am playing in get better and get better myself. If I do that I will be pushing for the First Team.”
Director of Football Darren said: “Queen’s Park has a long-established reputation for developing players from the grass roots of Scottish Football. That reputation is being enhanced further by the work carried out in our Academy now and home-grown talent will always be fundamental to this club.
“We now however have a growing platform where we can identify exceptional talent around the world and look to bring them to the club. Josiah’s signing is the first example of one of the recruitment plans I have for the club beyond Scotland coming together.”
