Debby strengthened into a Category 1 Hurricane last night before making landfall this morning in the Big Bend area of Florida. Wind speeds are at 80 mph as Debby starts to slow down its movement to the northeast.
The National Hurricane Center Forecast Cone shows Denny slowing to a crawl this week as it emerges into the Atlantic on Wednesday. This slow motion will bring a significant flooding event to Florida, Georgia, and the Carolinas this week. Areas could see over 20" inches of rainfall. Fortunately, Debby's impacts will stay well east of Acadiana.
The next tropical wave to monitor is entering the Caribbean Sea. There is a low chance for development as the disturbance moves westward towards the Yucatan Peninsula. Forecast uncertainty remains high but the area of concern from the NHC is well south of Louisiana.
