Emmerdale teases new romance in the Dales as Coronation Street star makes his debut
Emmerdale is set to welcome a new member of the Sugden family, but it’s not the only interesting development happening in the Dales.
A new trailer for Emmerdale has hinted that the ITV soap could be the start of a new relationship, and it could be interesting for one longstanding character.
As former Coronation Street actor Oliver Farnmouth makes his debut as John Sugden, it appears that romance could be on the cards for the new man in town and one of the Dingle family.
It’s already been confirmed that John is gay, and there appears to be a hint of flirtation with Aaron Dingle.
Speaking to Metro.co.uk, Oliver hinted that his character could be interesting from the start for ITV viewers.
He said: “We find out quite quickly that he’s got a military past, he’s openly gay.
“He does ruffle a few feathers, and he does kind of, you know, catch the eye of the odd person.”

Oliver commented that he’s excited for the potential awkward family drama as he added: “I welcome it. I welcome it.”
Oliver Farnworth, who joins as John Sugden this month, is no stranger to ITV screens.
Oliver played Andy Carver in Corrie from 2014 to 2017, as well as roles in Mr Selfridge (2013), The Girl on the Train (2018) and Beautiful Thing (2013).
Ahead of his first appearance in the village, viewers have been sharing theories on what could be in store for John.
At present, Victoria Sugden (Isabel Hodgins) and her son Harry (Adam Pryor) are the only Sugdens in the show – however all that is known is that John is reportedly poised to introduce significant changes for Victoria.
Emmerdale airs on Thursday 8 August at 7.30pm on ITV1 and from 7am on ITVX.
