Town of Gerry, N.Y. (WJET/WFXP) -- A New York man was charged for attempting to dig up a time capsule and causing property damage.
On July 30, deputies from the Chautauqua County Sheriff's Office were notified of a man digging up the Town of Gerry's time capsule without permission.
On Aug. 3, deputies found that 69-year-old Dennis R Torrey had dug up the time capsule himself and damaged the concrete it was encased in.
Torrey was charged with fourth-degree criminal mischief and was released with an appearance ticket with orders to appear in the Town of Gerry Court at a later date.
