It’s only been a few weeks since BMX pro Nigel Sylvester and Jordan Brand released their Air Jordan 4 RM “Fence Green” collaboration, and now the “Grandma’s Driveway” story is set to culminate with a second style launching soon.
Continuing the references to Sylvester’s early experiences getting acquainted with the handlebars in his grandmother’s yard, the “Driveway Gray” colorway takes on-the-nose inspiration from the pavement.
The Anthracite-based colorway features a plush leather upper and is mostly tonal, but the dark gray look is broken up with white on the midsole and a light gray on the heel’s signature “Bike Air” branding. The standout shade, however, is a University Red which can’t be missed despite appearing minimally. The color pops out from the toe’s mini Swoosh logo, the Air unit, and the sole, and Sylvester has mentioned it doubles as a homage to Jordan Brand’s iconic black-and-red “Bred” colorway.
While the debut “Fence Green” Nigel Sylvester x Air Jordan 4 RM saw a release from select Jordan Brand retailers, the follow-up “Driveway Gray” iteration will be far less available. It’s confirmed to launch Thursday, August 8 exclusively from Foot Locker and Nike’s SNKRS app for a retail price of $160.
In an Instagram post, Sylvester wrote about his memories buying sneakers from Foot Locker growing up. “As a kid, my parents would take me to Foot Locker in Green Acres Mall for new kicks and I’d come right back to this driveway to ride my bike,” he said.
Beyond the “Bike Air”-branded collaborations with Sylvester, Jordan Brand has big plans for the Air Jordan 4 RM silhouette. In the coming months, it will be released in a number of general release colorways in a wide range of sizes. Notable upcoming pairs include a twist on the Air Jordan 4’s fan-favorite “Black Cat” style.
In related news, Foot Locker, Inc. will announce its second-quarter results before the markets open on August 28.
