ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- This summer, there is a brand new store in town that has opened up in an unlikely spot. It's located inside of a local high school. The pop-up boutique is helping students find what they need for a successful school year.
"It felt like Macy's opening up this place," said Jeremiah McCrary, a student at Albany High School.
The Falcon Boutique, as it has been dubbed, is located on the upper floor of Albany High School, and most of the employees are students from the school's Best Buddies program, putting their best foot forward and learning some life skills.
Joey DiPiazza, the transition coordinator at the school, explained, "When we are thinking about what they may need, this is what we want for them -- the wow factor."
The boutique opened two weeks ago and already the donations have been flowing in to help stock the store. Inside, you can find everything from baby clothes and blazers to book bags and shoes -- all at a discount you just can beat – 100% free.
Jodi Commerford, the high school principal, said, "Certainly a need. We have more than 400 English second language students who attend Albany High.
McCrary added, "It's about being happy, getting free stuff, free clothes, free shoes."
In a year where so many families are pinching pennies and watching their budgets, whether it be a job interview or a special occasion, every student and their family is welcomed to shop through these racks.
"The days and times are different in 2024. I think everyone can benefit from something that is given to them, no matter what the situation is," DiPiazza said.
With thousands of items being donated, the students involved make every effort to make sure the boutique is run just as well as any trendy store in the mall.
Commerford tells NEWS10, next year, the school hopes to expand their resources by offering laundry services.
