OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) - Tax-free weekend kicks off Friday with school just around the corner. While school supplies are not included in that exemption, you can still find some deals at places like Target.
Target’s registers will be ringing much more with tax-free weekend underway in Oklahoma.
"The best time to shop is probably early,” store director Jill Vaughn said. “As the day goes on, we're going to see more and more traffic in store."
With the holiday only applying to clothes, or shoes under $100, Vaughn said you can take an extra 30 percent off those items. That includes backpacks.
"Definitely going to be some great value there,” Vaughn said.
In the back of the store it’s quite apparent that it’s the season for school supplies.
"We need notebooks, composition, notebooks, folders, markers, pencils,” Casey Freeman said as she shopped with her two children for school supplies.
"I took the day off so we could come maybe beat the crowd,” Stephanie Selfridge said while school supply shopping with her soon to be third grader Jacey.
Again, school supplies are not included in tax-free weekend, but plenty of items at Target are listed up to a dollar and below. Notebooks, glue, colored pencils and more are on a 20 items for under $20 supply list.
"The savings add up,” Freeman said. “I mean every little bit counts, whether it's school supplies, clothes, groceries, whatever it is."
Take off an additional 20 percent for your one time total in store purchase for students and teachers that are a part of their membership program as well. It’s a “holiday” of sorts that sparks some generosity too.
"I usually buy more in case there's any unfortunate kids that don't aren't able to bring in their school supplies, I can help them out with that,” Selfridge said.
Target also has online orders and pick ups. Tax-free weekend runs through Sunday.
