Tottenham face their toughest test of pre-season next as they take on Bayern Munich in Seoul, so who will Ange Postecoglou pick to start the game?
Postecoglou‘s men are on an unbeaten run through pre-season so far, with wins against Cambridge United, Hearts, QPR, Vissel Kobe, and the best players from the K-League.
The competition ramps up a few notches on Saturday, though, with German giants Bayern Munich looking to put a stop to Tottenham‘s run.
Here’s who we think will start the game at the weekend.
Postecoglou should go with a strong lineup for this one, given the opposition, so don’t be surprised to see something resembling what the ideal XI would be for the opening day of the league season.
Guglielmo Vicario: No surprises here as the Italian takes his place between the sticks as Spurs’ number one stopper.
Pedro Porro: He’s started every game so far in pre-season and has looked sharp, so there’s absolutely no reason for Postecoglou to change things now.
Radu Dragusin: Having returned to training and got some minutes under his belt in midweek, we expect Dragusin to make it into the starting lineup this time around.
Ben Davies: The Welshman has recovered from injury and is ramping up his minutes game by game. He could fill in at centre-back while Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven remain on extended breaks.
Destiny Udogie: Postecoglou said this week that Udogie was close to returning, and we’re optimistic that he will get the nod for this game and finally make his long-awaited comeback.
Pape Sarr: He was the most experienced central midfielder in midweek, and we expect Sarr to retain his starting spot for this game.
Yves Bissouma: Was rested from the start against the K-League XI, but Postecoglou will want a stronger, more experienced lineup this time around.
James Maddison: Was another player who had to settle for a spot on the bench in midweek, but like Bissouma, Maddison should get the nod for Bayern.
Brennan Johnson: Is simply undroppable at the moment, and will get a chance to show just how far his game has developed against top opposition this weekend.
Heung-min Son: Has been on fire in pre-season, and will relish strutting his stuff against Bayern. It’s just a shame he won’t get to face off against Harry Kane.
Dejan Kulusevski: Played a false 9 role in midweek, and it really worked. We expect more of the same for the next game.
Brandon Austin played the second half against the K-League XI but we don’t anticipate the same for this game.
In defence, we would expect to see Djed Spence, Ashley Phillips (if he is deemed fit), and probably Jamie Donley in his new left-back role.
Lucas Bergvall and Archie Gray did well against their South Korean opponents in midweek, and should definitely get a runout again this time.
As for attacking areas, Timo Werner, Mikey Moore, and Will Lankshear will more than likely be brought on in the second half. We may even see Richarlison get a brief cameo, too.
