PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) -- After two days on the lam, a runaway tortoise is now back home with his family in Southeast Portland, according to police.
At around 10 a.m., while working an outreach mission just north of Southeast Flavel Street on the west side of Interstate 205, Portland police officers spotted a tortoise walking down the middle of a multi-use path in the area.
Believing the tortoise to be a runaway pet, the officers contacted Multnomah County Animal Control. They found the tortoise’s name was "Bowser" and he was reported missing from his home - located on the east side of I-205 - on Tuesday.
Bowser was reunited with his owner soon after at the shelter.
"It’s not clear where Bowser has been for the past 2 days, or how he traversed the interstate freeway," PPB said in a statement. "But PPB is gratified that he is safe and sound and back home with his family."
