In his press conference following the Federal Reserve's meeting on Wednesday, Fed Chair Jerome Powell suggested that central bankers could start lowering the federal funds rate as soon as September. This means mortgage rates could soon fall.
In July, 30-year mortgage rates averaged 6.45%, according to Zillow data. This is down 13 basis points from the month before.
