India grabbed a3-0 clean victory in the 3-match T20I series against Sri Lanka with a fantastic super over victory in the last match. Sri Lankan team was on a constant pace in collecting runs, but Surya’s shocking decision to send Rinku Singh in the second-last over and bowling the last over himself was a serious game changer. Indian bowling lineup was catching up to the pace and then wickets started flowing like water for Sri Lanka as they went from 110-1 to 137-8 in 20 overs. Since the match ended in a tie, a super over was declared, where, the hosts could only score 2 runs before losing both their wickets. Indian batters were quick to grab the victory on this one as Surya sent a boundary on the very first ball and India marched to a spectacular win.
Former Indian cricketer Mohammad Kaif was impressed by this show of Suryakumar’s captaincy and went on to social media to shower him a massive compliment regarding the change in his bowling.
“Bhai Rohit Sharma ka chela hai Surya.. 19th over Rinku se, 20th over khud SKY and won the game. What else one needs to be a great leader?” he posted on X
When Sri Lanka was 9 runs short off 12 balls, Rinku Singh came out on the field to put his off-spin into play. As much as for his first time bowling in the T20Is, Rinku only gave out 3 runs while picking 2 wickets in the 19th over. There was more unexpected thought process to be witnessed, as Suryakumar himself came out to bowl the last over, then went on to successfully defend 5 runs and on top of that, took 2 wickets. This sent the game to a Super Over, where India won and sealed the series with a 3-0 triumph.
“I have a lot of wickets in domestic cricket. It’s not like that, and I even have a wicket in ODIs. I had been informed by Surya to be ready for bowling in the series. Though I didn’t bowl in the run-up to this game, Surya bhai had told me to keep practicing my bowling and asked me to do it during warm-up.”
“When the game was on, I did not expect that I would be asked to bowl, as the situation was totally neck-and-neck. Then he asked me to roll my arm over and once I started to bowl, it was God’s plan – two wickets,” said Rinku in a video posted by BCCI on their ‘X’ account.
