A 28-year-old man was arrested on Thursday in Nicosia on suspicion of having robbed three bakeries.
The first robbery took place at 11pm, with the man entering a bakery with his face covered and with a sharp object in hand, threatening the workers, before taking money out of the till and making off with it.
Then, on Tuesday, the man broke the lock of a bakery’s entrance before entering the bakery and demanding that the workers give him the money out of the till. After they obliged, he ran away.
The third and final robbery took place at about 12.30am on Wednesday. On this occasion, the robber took baked goods off the shelf and headed towards the till.
Once he arrived at the till, he pushed the till operator and took money out of the till, before once again fleeing the scene, despite bystanders’ best efforts to stop him.
A police spokesperson confirmed to the Cyprus Mail that once in possession of the money, he left the baked goods behind when he departed.
The man is expected to be brought before the Nicosia district court on Thursday. The police’s investigation into the matter is ongoing.
