NEW YORK (PIX11) — NYPD officers cleared the streets of Midtown, Manhattan, on Fifth Avenue of illegal vendors. They are cracking down on vendors who clutter sidewalks selling illegal goods.
"New Yorkers were constantly being accosted by the overzealous illegal vending on Fifth Avenue while going about their daily routines," wrote NYPD Deputy Commissioner Kaz Daughtry on X. "New Yorkers deserve clear sidewalks and should not be inconvenienced by those who would break the law. Let's make this clear: When the community calls, we answer."
Daughtry also urged New Yorkers to call 311 for the most up-to-date information on becoming a legal vendor.
Police say they plan to continue patrolling the area to prevent the illegal sellers from returning.
