During an appearance on MSNBC's "Way Too Early" to talk about who Vice President Kamala Harris will pick as her running mate, expected to be announced next Tuesday, the former top adviser to ex-House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-WI) briefly turned to Sen. J. D. Vance's drag on Donald Trump's election chances.
Speaking with host Sam Stein, Brendan Buck cut to the chase and claimed that Trump's hand-picked running mate from Ohio is "not a very serious person."
After explaining to the MSNBC host that a vice presidential pick's main qualification is to do no harm to the ticket and make voters like them, Buck said Vance is a failure on all counts.
Before suggesting that Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro (D) should be at the top of Harris' list, he changed the subject to the embattled Vance.

"On the other side you have J.D. Vance who I think is demonstrating himself to be not a very serious person, or at least not mature person enough at this point and having a contrast with someone with real governing experience and has that competence is really important beyond the standard that something could be happen and you need to be ready," explained. "So that's obviously the most important thing and then delivering your message."
He later added, "The last thing you want is your V.P. candidate to be a distraction. A V.P. candidate has two jobs: introduce yourself and promote the top of the ticket and attack the other person. That's it. And if you're drawing attention to yourself in a negative way, then you're doing a disservice to the ticket."
