Eloy Jiménez, Paul DeJong, Tanner Banks dealt in a late Deadline flurry
While purported Trade Deadline headliner Garrett Crochet stayed put — oh wait, you knew that a week ago, because Garrett himself told us with his 11th hour demands — it didn’t stop the White Sox from making a series of minor deals.
Eloy Jiménez was shipped to Baltimore in a White Sox salary-relief move. Jiménez is owed $4.5 million for the remainder of 2024 and will receive a $3 million buyout from the Orioles when his $16.5 million option is not picked up for 2025. In addition to salary relief, Baltimore sent lefty reliever Trey McGough to the White Sox. McGough, 26, has played at Double-A and Triple-A this season to a 1.99 ERA and 0.994 WHIP.
Our guy in Charlotte, Jonathan Lee, shot this funny moment once news of the Eloy trade broke:
This is funny. In the fog of not knowing who was the return in the Eloy trade, Knights players are motioning random dudes from Norfolk to come to join them in the first base dugout!! https://t.co/p3ZJcj85ag pic.twitter.com/yROkDDFHVv

As it turns out, McGough was the one who had to make the long walk across the diamond.
Tanner Banks went to Philadelphia for Low-A shortstop William Bergolla. Bergolla fits right in with yesterday’s acquisitions from the Dodgers, Alexander Albertus, Jeral Perez, as he is also just starting full-season ball at age 19. However, Bergolla is a speedy slap hitter, presumably with a sound glove at short. He was ranked No. 11 on the Phillies by MLB Pipeline.
A few hours earlier, Paul DeJong was sent to Kansas City — yes, he packed up his locker and carried it across the field to the visitor’s clubhouse — for right-handed reliever Jarold Rosado. Rosado is also beginning his first year in full-season ball, and though he’s being called old for the level is actually about a half-year young for Low-A. And he has been tearing it up, with a 1.85 ERA over 27 games. It’s speculated that Rosado might report right to High-A Winston-Salem with the Sox.
We’ll keep you posted with any late deals or additional trade details.
