Oklahoma tribes granted $11 million from HUD for housing investments
OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) – The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) announced on Tuesday, $150.9 million for new housing investments in Tribal communities.
In Oklahoma, the Iowa Tribe, the Kickapoo Tribe, the Wichita Housing Authority, and the Wyandotte Nation will share $11,2631,464 under the programs announcement.
“The Biden-Harris Administration is proud to work alongside our Tribal partners to help them meet the housing needs that exist in Indian Country,” said HUD Acting Secretary Adrianne Todman. “These funds will help build and repair homes desperately needed right now.”
The funds are designated for various purposes, such as new construction, rehabilitation, and infrastructure to support affordable housing within Indian reservations and similar areas.
The Indian Housing Block Grant (IHBG) competitive program is expected to bring relief to Tribal communities as it set to inject essential financial resources for disadvantaged Tribal families.
“The Biden Harris Administration is committed to advancing the supply of affordable housing with tribal nation partners to meet Indian Country’s housing needs,” said Candace Valenzuela, HUD Regional Administrator for the Southwest. “This substantial HUD funding will help hard working tribal communities preserve and create many decent, affordable housing opportunities for those who need them most.”

- OK Iowa Tribe of Oklahoma - $3,000,000
- OK Kickapoo Tribe of Oklahoma - $3,000,000
- OK Wichita Housing Authority - $3,000,000
- OK Wyandotte Nation - $2,631,464
