The Senate Judiciary Committee will hear testimony Tuesday from acting Secret Service Director Ronald Rowe Jr. and FBI Deputy Director Paul Abbate as part of their investigation into the attempted assassination of former President Trump at a rally in Pennsylvania earlier this month.
Rowe assumed the top position at the agency, which provides security for presidents and their families, as well as presidential candidates, after former Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle resigned after backlash following the incident.
In addition to answers about the lapses in communication and action at the July 13 rally in Butler, Pa., Judiciary Committee Chair Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) said he also wants to know what plans are in place to assure the safety of those attending the Democratic National Convention in Chicago beginning Aug. 19.
The hearing is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. EDT.
