I’m trapped in my home because 50 extra cars stop me parking on my street – it’s absolute chaos and only getting worse

A HOMEOWNER has claimed he has been trapped in his home after 50 extra cars crammed into his street.

Peter Collins alleged that he has been left “dodging vans” just to get across the road to his motor after all his usual spaces were blocked off.

Mr Collins, from Glasgow, lives close to the new student accommodation block in the Northbridge area, which is currently under construction.

Unfortunately, the work has apparently caused significant congestion in the surrounding residential streets.

Mr Collins told the Glasgow Times: “I’ve been woken up for the last week at 5.35am, with guys shouting, swearing, parking.

“I have disabled parents who couldn’t visit me because they couldn’t get access to the pavements to walk into your street.

“I physically have had to dodge massive vans twice with my little dog because you can’t see across the road.

“It’s absolute chaos and it’s really escalating.

“The police were out three times last week and 101 has been called more than 20 times because people’s cars are blocked in.”

The frustrated resident also alleged that drivers use the street to avoid entering Glasgow’s Low Emission Zone and to beat city centre parking charges.

He claimed to have contacted the council multiple times over the past two years, with no meaningful action yet taken to address the issue.

Mr Collins added: “It’s a nightmare.

“Lots of my neighbours have not been able to get their cars out, so they have been late for appointments, late for work.

“People are literally arguing in the street with the workmen who are not bothered.”

A spokesperson for Unite Students, which has contracted out the building of the new block, said: “We are aware of this issue and have spoken to our contractor.”

Harvey Shopfitters, the contractor involved in the project, said that they had been in touch with both the Glasgow Times and Mr Collins with their comments, but declined to share those comments with The Sun

Glasgow City Council said: “We are currently considering parking control measures to protect residents in Sighthill from people coming into the area to park in this way.

“If driveways, etc, are being blocked residents should contact Police Scotland.”
