A WOMAN has shared her super simple hack that will get rid of flies and maggots from your bins in no time at all.
So if you are fed up with nasty creepy crawlies taking over your space, then we’ve got you covered.
Not only is this an effective and natural hack, but it’s also super cheap too[/caption]Wendie, a beauty and lifestyle content creator from Ireland, revealed that thanks to her two-ingredient trick, you won’t have any flies or maggots crawling around your bins.
Not only this, but even better, it’ll get rid of the grim smell too.
Posting on social media, the gardening enthusiast shared her simple trick, leaving many open-mouthed.
And if you’re on a budget, fear not, as not only does this hack use two kitchen cupboard buys, but even if you aren’t stocked up, you won’t have to splash the cash.
Sharing her advice online, Wendie said: “I just saw a fantastic tip for summer time – get yourself a piece of bread, get yourself some white vinegar, douse the bread with the white vinegar and pop it in your outside bin.
“Then you won’t have any maggots, any flies or any disgusting smell.”
Thrilled with the quick hack, Wendie continued: “So that’s a great tip.”
If you haven’t got any bread left in your cupboard, fear not, as you can nab a loaf of Everyday Essentials Medium Sliced White Bread, for just 47p from Aldi, or a loaf of H W Nevill’s White Bread, for also just 47p, from Tesco.
And if you just used your last bit of white vinegar to clean up the mess in your kitchen, you can nab a bottle of the stuff for only 35p from Aldi, Tesco and Sainsbury’s.
This environmentally friendly method is an effective and natural way to deter maggots and flies, as it’s thought that the pesky creatures don’t like the scent of vinegar which is why they stay away from it.
Not only this, but when exposed to vinegar, the pH level of the maggots’ surroundings drops sharply, making it uninhabitable and ultimately lethal to them.
This trick also acts as a disinfectant, helping to maintain cleanliness in the treated areas.
Common pests in the garden don’t need to be a cause for alarm. If you can identify them, you can work on getting rid of them and preventing them from returning.
Aphids (Greenfly, Blackfly)
Aphids are extremely common and can impact plant growth. They have tiny soft pear-shaped bodies, and are usually green or black. You may spot them clustered on the stem of soft shoots – look under leaves in particular – or may find a sticky substance on your plants that gives away aphids have been there sucking at the sap.
Whitefly
These small white-winged insects are related to aphids, at just 1 or 2 mm in length, and look very much like white moths as adults. They can be found on the underside of leaves, preferring younger, fresher leaves. They fly in clusters when you disturb them. Their lifecycle is only three weeks long, which means an infestation can occur very rapidly.
Slugs
An unmissable, squashy-looking body plus small sensory tentacles on its head. Slugs move along on one muscular foot. They range in scale from surprisingly small to terrifyingly large; limax cinereoniger species can grow comfortably beyond 20 cm in length.
Cabbage Moth Caterpillar
Cabbage moth caterpillars happily make their way into the heart of the vegetables, The caterpillars are distinguished in shades of yellow or browny green with no hair.
Mealy Bug
Mealybugs are tiny oval-shaped insects that have a white, powdery wax coating. There are several different species, many of which have what looks like legs coming from their sides and back end. In their earliest stage of life, it’s entirely possible to mistake them for fungus and not recognise them as insects at all.
