Police on Monday arrested a fifth person in a case involving the attempt to blow up a prison officer’s car in Nicosia.
A 27-year-old Nicosia resident was arrested and taken into custody for the crime, committed in the early hours on July 4.
The explosion had been perpetrated on the parked vehicle of the 60-year-old officer.
From investigations at the scene, police determined that the explosion was caused by an improvised device.
Three other persons, aged 31, 39 and 42, were arrested for the same case and are being remanded for eight days following their court hearing.
Another man was arrested on Monday without being charged at this stage.
Trade union Pasydy said the prison officer in question had “a strong sense of responsibility, dignity, and consciousness,” which was why he had been targeted.
Nicosia CID continues its investigations.
