JENNINGS, La. (KLFY) -- A Jennings man was arrested last week in connection with a domestic dispute that resulted in a stabbing, authorities said.
Derrick Mitchell, 55, of Jennings, is charged with domestic abuse battery with a dangerous weapon, domestic abuse battery with child endangerment, domestic abuse battery with strangulation and resisting an officer.
Jennings Police said they received a 911 call about a stabbing in the 1000 block of West Street on July 22. When officers arrived the resident who responded, later identified as the victim, was reluctant to open the door. Officials said it was later discovered that Mitchell attempted to coerce the victim into telling the officers to leave.
When officers entered the home, they saw Mitchell running out the back door, gave chase for several blocks and apprehended him, authorities said.
Investigators said Mitchell had started the altercation, hit the victim several times, gained access to a knife and stabbed the victim in the abdomen. The victim was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.
Authorities said the 10-year-old son of the victim was present during the incident.
Bond details were not released.
