Good morning, Mets fans!
After a busy day of trades on Sunday, Andy Martino of SNY reported that the Mets’ trade deadline expectations have shifted due to an “insane” pitching market. Martino added that the Mets are looking to add a depth starter and another reliever and seem reluctant to part with any of their top prospects.
David Peterson surrendered four runs in the fourth inning, including a three-run homer to Matt Olson, and the Mets’ offense couldn’t get much going as they dropped the series finale against the Braves, 9-2. After a promising start to the series, the Mets settled for a split. Luckily for the Mets, the Pirates rallied for a run in the ninth inning and four more in the 10th to down the Diamondbacks, 6-5, keeping the Mets in the third NL Wild Card spot.
The Mets begin a three-game series with the Twins this evening, with Jose Quintana (5-6, 4.02 ERA) taking the hill against former Mets prospect Simeon Woods Richardson. A second-round pick back in 2018, Woods Richardson was dealt by the Mets along with Anthony Kay to the Blue Jays to acquire Marcus Stroman. First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 PM.
The Mets officially acquired Jesse Winker from the Nationals in exchange for right-handed pitching prospect Tyler Stuart. Winker expressed his excitement about the trade, speaking highly of the team and the fan base. To clear room for Winker, the Mets optioned DJ Stewart to Triple-A Syracuse and transferred Kodai Senga to the 60-day injured list.
The Padres have acquired right-handed reliever Jason Adam from the Rays in exchange for pitching prospect Dylan Lesko, outfielder Homer Bush Jr., and catcher J.D. Gonzalez. Adam has a 2.49 ERA in 47 innings this year and is under team control through 2027.
Later on Sunday, the Rays swung another deal, sending All-Star third baseman Isaac Paredes to the Cubs in exchange for infielder Christopher Morel, and right-hander Hunter Bigge and Ty Johnson. Originally signed by the Cubs in 2015, Paredes is hitting .247/.355/.438 with 16 homers in 425 plate appearances.
The Tigers have traded catcher Carson Kelly to the Rangers in exchange for catcher Liam Hicks and righty Tyler Owens. Kelly is hitting .242/.327/.393 with seven homers in 202 plate appearances this season.
Cardinals utilityman Tommy Edman is drawing interest from the Dodgers and Yankees. Edman has yet to play in 2024 due to wrist and ankle injuries.
The Yankees have designated J.D. Davis for assignment to clear room for Jazz Chisholm. Davis went just 2-for-19 with nine strikeouts during his time in the Bronx.
Braves starter Reynaldo López left Sunday’s game after just three innings due to forearm tightness. López is headed back to Atlanta to undergo an MRI.
The Marlins have placed first baseman Josh Bell on waivers. While he’s struggled for most of the year, Bell has torn the cover off the ball over the last week, going 12-for-28 with five homers.
Rangers righty Jon Gray left Sunday’s game before throwing a pitch due to groin discomfort. Gray felt the pain while warming up, but attempted to pitch before exiting.
The Red Sox have claimed former Mets reliever Yohan Ramírez off waivers from the Dodgers. Ramírez pitched to a 5.52 ERA in 29 1/3 innings for the Dodgers before getting designated for assignment.

2004: Eric Valent hits for the ninth cycle in Mets history in a 10-1 rout in Montreal. Valent singles in the second innings, doubles in the third, homers in the fifth, and triples in the seventh. Mike Cameron adds two homers in the victory.
