LAST year has been called the best year ever for video games, but 2024 is giving stiff competition.
August sees a mix of smaller cult favourites, and new triple-A games that has got everyone excited.

Here’s all the biggest games launching in August 2024.
The Steamworld series covers a lot of different genres, but Heist focuses on building characters and strategic gameplay.
This sequel is far more expansive than the original game, with a lot more levels and characters to recruit.
It also offers a number of quality of life features over the original, such as the ability to go back just a few turns rather than start the level over again.
Steamworld Heist 2 will launch on August 8 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC via Steam and Nintendo Switch.
Planned to be the first game in the Black Myth series which explores Chinese mythology, Wukong is based on the classic story Journey to the West.
Wukong is a third-person action adventure game with soulslike elements, featuring challenging combat but a mostly linear story.
While it’s launching in August for PS5 and PC, there will be an Xbox Series X|S release at a later date.
Black Myth: Wukong comes out on August 20 for PS5 and PC.
Concord is the latest live-service hero shooter praised as an upcoming PlayStation console exclusive.
The beta sessions were fairly underwhelming, but the PlayStation fans still have hopes that it will be bigger when it comes to the console release.
At launch there will be 16 playable characters, and players will team up in squads of five.
Concord will launch on August 23 for PS5, and PC.
The latest expansion for one of the biggest games in the world, World of Warcraft, is scheduled to be released in August.
The War Within features a new area with four distinct zones, and will also raise the level cap to 80.
This is the tenth major expansion for the MMORPG, and players are excited for the new storyline.
World of Warcraft: The War Within will be released on August 26 exclusively for PC.
Following a number of creepy and cryptic teasers, Nintendo finally announced that Emio was an upcoming release in the Famicom Detective Club series.
The classic detective series revolves around collecting clues, questioning witnesses and solving the case.
This all-new story follows the case of Emio, the nickname given to a serial killer from a cold case that could have started killing once more.
Emio – The Smiling Man: Famicom Detective Club comes out on August 29 exclusively for Nintendo Switch.
The first new game in the mainline Mana series since 2006, Visions of Mana is highly anticipated by fans of the series.
It brings back the ring menu from the most popular game in the series, Secrets of Mana, and brings in the elemental magic the series is known for.
The largest game in the series, it features a huge open world, overworld encounters and large boss fights.
Visions of Mana will launch on August 29 for PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
The latest game in the Star Wars franchise, Star Wars Outlaws, is being published by gaming giant Ubisoft.
You take on the role of Kay Vess, a smuggler who can explore an open world consisting of both space and planet environments.
In an all new story for the franchise, Outlaws allows players to live their own Star Wars smuggler fantasy.
Star Wars Outlaws will be released on August 30 for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
