A MUM was left stunned after finding out she was pregnant six months after her husband’s vasectomy.
Mum-of-two Victoria Wood, from Texas, was perplexed when she started experiencing pregnancy symptoms in April, as her husband Will underwent the male sterilisation process last October.
After Victoria and Will had welcomed their second daughter in 2022, they had felt like their family was complete.
However, they are now expecting their third baby girl, despite the chances of them falling pregnant being less than one per cent.
Speaking in a TikTok video, Victoria – who is currently mum to Luna and Laney – said: “Will is a rule follower to a T.
“And he did all of his follow up appointments [after his vasectomy] and then he also got a sperm analysis in January of this year, and the sperm analysis was zero.”
Victoria realised something was up when she missed her period in April, and she asked Will to pick up a pregnancy test, leaving him understandably confused.
She explained: “[I said] I know, but my body’s feeling weird.”
When the results came back, she found out they were pregnant.
She shared: “[The test] is positive.
“I’m freaking out, he’s freaking out, it’s a whirlwind of emotions.
“The urologist reported that in the seven years he’s been doing the surgeries, it’s the first time that it has happened to him, and he asked for another sperm analysis, which still came back zero.
“Now, the urologist is saying there’s an underlying condition with your wife if she’s testing positive on a pregnancy test.
“She’s either one, pregnant, or two, there is a tumour or cancer or some underlying condition.”
Victoria admitted she started “freaking out” when she heard these words, and shared: “I am crying at this point.
“He’s recommending that I make appointments with all these specialists to do follow ups and I’m trying to get in, they’re saying it’s not an emergency.”
The couple went to the emergency room and they gave her an ultrasound, which confirmed that they were pregnant.
Victoria admitted that on the car ride home, her husband dismissed the idea she would have cheated on him.
She added: “There’s no way I cheated on him.
“[But I tell him] for peace of mind would you like me to get a paternity test?”
Will assured her that he believed her and didn’t need to go through with a prenatal paternity test, which can set you back up to £1,557.
They broke the news to their families and admitted they were “excited and happy”, but confused.
The news left Will’s parents perplexed and they also questioned the paternity.
VASECTOMY is the name given to a minor operation that works to blocks sperm from being ejaculated during sex.
During the surgery, the tubes that carry the fluid from a man’s testicles to the penis are cut, blocked or sealed.
The NHS explains: “This prevents sperm from reaching the seminal fluid (semen), which is ejaculated from the penis during sex.
“There will be no sperm in the semen, so a woman’s egg can’t be fertilised.”
Surprisingly, the life-changing operation can be carried out in just 15 minutes.
The procedure is typically carried out under local anaesthetic, so is often relatively painless.
People that undertake a vasectomy are urged to keep using alternative forms of contraception to protect themselves against sexually transmitted diseases.
The NHS website reveals that the vasectomy is more than 99 per cent effective.
They estimate: “Out of 2,000 men who are sterilised, one will get a woman pregnant during the rest of his lifetime.”
But just like all forms of contraception, there is still a small chance of fertility after the procedure.
Victoria said: “Will’s mum the next day [asks] if we can talk privately, she pulls me into the room and basically asked ‘are you willing to take a paternity test?’’
The pregnant woman said she was left “gutted” by the conversation but saw where she was coming from and agreed to do a test.
She added: “I take the paternity test and it is, of course, Will’s.
“We’re expecting baby number three in December of this year.”
Many people were shocked by the story, but others said they had had similar experiences of their own.
One said: “I had a pregnancy after a tubal ligation.
“Less than one per cent club here, too! I did a paternity test on my daughter to make sure she’s mine.”
Another added: “Clearly this baby is meant to be in the world to do wonderful amazing things in the future! I would love an update in about 20 years to see what this child is doing.”
A third added: “MIL worked with a man with six kids. They had three, she had tubes tied, got pregnant with number four, he got a vasectomy (with all follow-ups), she got pregnant with twins.”
Former Manchester United and England star Wayne, 38, is among around 11,000 British men who have a vasectomy on the NHS each year, most of them in their late thirties like him.
But a further 40,000 people search “vasectomy” on Google each month, suggesting more men are considering undergoing the procedure.
GP and sexual health expert Janine David tells Sun Health: “Vasectomies are a marvellous thing. It’s quick and simple, done at your GP surgery.
“It carries very little risk and most men find it much easier and more satisfying than expected.”
But in many cases pride and fear of pain continue to put men off the procedure, even though it’s a largely safe and uncomplicated op that sees men back in action in the bedroom within two to three weeks.
