JD Vance once told a Yale Law School classmate that he hated the police and that Donald Trump was a “morally reprehensible human being,” according to reports.
The classmate Sofia Nelson handed over up to 90 messages and emails Vance and they shared from 2014 to 2017 to the New York Times.
The messages revealed Vance’s alleged stance on his now-running partner Donald Trump and his openness to accept Nelson, who is transgender.
Nelson’s primary purpose for leaking the text messages and emails is to “inform the opinion of voters about Mr. Vance,” Nelson said.
In 2014, Vance shared his thoughts on police after the killing of Michael Brown, a Black 18-year-old, by a white police officer in Ferguson, Missouri.
“I hate the police. Given the number of negative experiences I’ve had in the past few years, I can’t imagine what a black guy goes through,” Vance allegedly said in an email to Nelson.
In 2015, in an excerpt from an email between Vance and Nelson, he also allegedly referred to Trump as a demagogue.
A demagogue is a political leader who seeks support by appealing to the desires and prejudices of ordinary people rather than by using rational arguments.
“I’m obviously outraged at Trump’s rhetoric, and I worry most of all about how welcome Muslim citizens feel in their own country, Vance said, per the New York Times reports.
“But I also think that people have always believed crazy s**t and there have always been demagogues willing to exploit the people who believe crazy s**t.”
Another instance was shared between the two where Vance apologized for referring to Nelson as a lesbian in his book Hillbilly Elegy.
“I hope you recognize that the description came from a place of ignorance, when I first started writing years ago,” Vance said in 2016 in an email.
“I hope you’re not offended, but if you are I’m sorry!”
On September 22, 2016, Vance reportedly weighed in on the battle for president between Trump and Hilary Clinton.
“The more white people feel like voting for Trump, the more black people will suffer. I really believe that,” Vance wrote in an excerpt from an email to Nelson seen by the Times.
As the election inched closer an excerpt from an email sent in October 4, 2016, revealed the potential vice president’s thoughts on Trump.
“He’s just a bad man. A morally reprehensible human being,” Vance wrote.

The leaked text messages and emails are not the first time Vance has bashed Trump.
As Trump hopes to win his way back to the Oval Office, Vance has stood by his side as a defender and supporter — a major difference from his stance in the previous race.
Eight years ago, Vance branded Republicans voting for Trump as “idiots” and called the former president “cultural heroin” and a “terrible candidate,” per Fox News.
He also compared him to dictator Adolf Hitler.
“I go back and forth between thinking Trump is a cynical a**hole like Nixon who wouldn’t be that bad [and might even prove useful] or that he’s America’s Hitler. How’s that for discouraging?” Vance wrote in 2016, per Fox News.
But the potential vice president has changed his stance and admitted he was wrong about the former president.
“Look, I was wrong about Donald Trump,” Vance said on Fox News.
“I didn’t think he was gonna be a good president, Bret. He was a great president.
“And it’s one of the reasons why I’m working so hard to make sure he gets a second term.”
Vance currently is a state senator for Ohio and beat out many others for the position as Trump’s running mate.
