New Delhi: The Indian team started their new era under captain Suryakumar Yadav and head coach Gautam Gambhir with a 43-run win in the first T20I against Sri Lanka on Saturday. Sent into bat first, India posted 213/7, thanks to Suryakumar’s 26-ball 58 and useful contributions from openers Yashasvi Jaiswal (40), Shubman Gill (34) and Rishabh Pant’s 49 off 33 balls. In reply, Sri Lanka were all out for 170 in 19.2 overs. Riyan Parag took three wickets for five runs while Axar Patel and Arshdeep Singh got two apiece. Pathum Nissanka top-scored for Sri Lanka with a 48-ball 79 while his opening partner Kusal Mendis contributed 45. The second match of the series is on Sunday (July 28).
