Nanaimo Clippers reveal new logo
Nanaimo, B.C. (July 26, 2024) — A new era in the rich history of the Nanaimo Clippers has begun with the unveiling of the organization’s new logo, part of its rebranding ahead of the 2024-25 BCHL season.
Paying tribute to the nearly century-old team identity, the organization will return to a classic letter “N” as a primary logo, etched with a classic Clipper ship icon as teams of the last five decades have done throughout the team’s tenure in the BCHL.
A new secondary shield logo in the form of a boat anchor makes reference to key parts of Nanaimo’s history, including the Nanaimo Bastion landmark, and five diamonds of coal to represent the industry that spurred Nanaimo’s initial settlement; a similar pattern to that found on the City’s official flag. Both the ship on the primary logo and Bastion on the secondary fly the Naval “Bravo” flag, indicating the carrying of dangerous cargo. Both logos also feature a wave form near the bottom of the design to represent Nanaimo’s waterfront nature.
The new brand was the creative product of Nanaimo-based Pedestrian Studio, who also developed the team’s popular alternate jerseys in the 2023-24 season.
“Drawing inspiration from the iconic sweaters of the 1930’s and 40’s, as well as referencing the Jerseys of the past five decades, we aimed to celebrate the team’s storied past while giving it a modern touch,” said Jared Rhind, Creative Director at Pedestrian. “The new branding features a bold, simple silhouette that reflects the city of Nanaimo while clearly integrating the icon of the Clippers ship.
“Staying true to the team’s current colors, the new design strikes a balance between innovation and tradition,” he added. “We understand the importance of continuity in visual identity and held true to the familiar palette fans have grown to cherish, ensuring a seamless transition.
“We dream of seeing our community draped in orange, white and black.”
The team’s new home and away jerseys are set to be unveiled in August.
