SCURRY COUNTY, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) — Another sizeable earthquake has been recorded in West Texas this week.
The earthquake, which the United States Geological Survey says was magnitude 4.8, happened about 9 miles northeast of Hermleigh, which is about 15 miles east of Snyder and 24 miles northwest of Sweetwater, around 9:28 a.m. Friday.
Citizens across the Big Country, including Abilene, called Nexstar affiliate KTAB and KRBC to report rumbles and the shaking of personal items.
One resident in Rotan said his window was damaged.
A secondary earthquake registered at magnitude 3.2 was recorded around 9:40 a.m.
The earthquake magnitude scale shows that earthquakes ranging from magnitudes 2.5 to 5.4 are often felt but they only cause minor damage.
500,000 earthquakes of this scale are estimated to happen every year.
