Alasdair Gold reveals what Djed Spence got up to after Spurs players had finished training
The Tottenham Hotspur players were put through their paces today at an open training session at the Japan National Stadium.
Tottenham held an open training session in Tokyo
Ange Postecoglou’s side face Vissel Kobe tomorrow in a pre-season friendly at the same venue and today offered a chance for supporters to see their heroes in action.
Football.London‘s Alasdair Gold was in attendance in Tokyo to watch the session which was not as intense as the double sessions the players have been experiencing earlier in the week, with the club having one eye on tomorrow’s match.
Djed Spence took part in the session with the defender having impressed in the early pre-season matches against Hearts and QPR, prior to the trip to Japan.
Postecoglou has typically chosen first-choice right-back Pedro Porro to start the matches with Spence coming on at half-time in place of the Spaniard with Emerson Royal slotting across to cover the shortage of central defenders.
Spence put in some extra work on the training pitch
Gold revealed that when some of the players were working on free-kicks and other drills, Spence was busy with senior assistant head coach Matt Wells.
Spence was drilled by Wells on trying to keep his body shape appropriate to the threat of the Spurs coach who was running alongside the 23-year-old to stop him from getting past him, or to block a cross.
The work between the pair continued after the other players had finished their session.

It genuinely feels that Spence could be given a second opportunity at Tottenham this season, especially with Emerson Royal said to be close to a move to AC Milan.
Whether Spence is prepared to stay and battle Porro for the starting position on the right of the defence remains to be seen, especially after he saw regular game time at Genoa in the second half of last season.
Hopefully, he gets another chance to prove his worth in tomorrow’s game.
