Funnily enough I was thinking of doing a post like this earlier. Most of us said in September last year that the window just gone was the best we'd had in a long long time. To recap it:
23/24 season summer window:
IN: Sanderson, Buchanan, Laird, Bielik, T Roberts, Miyoshi, Anderson, Dembele, Drameh, Aiwu, Burke, Stansfield
OUT: Chong, Jobe Bellingham, Colin, Cosgrove, Dean, Deeney, Graham, Friend, Gordon
24/25 season summer window (so far):
IN: Allsop, Peacock-Farrell, May, Hansson, Cochrane, Willumsson, Klarer, Leonard
OUT: Etheridge, Gardner, M Roberts, Ruddy, Jeacock, Pritchard, Sunjic, Hogan, Bacuna(?), Longelo(?)
Lots of us thought at the time it was a fantastic window, and then later on in the season revised that, sometimes overly so in my opinion. Especially the budget we had as it was so low, and we needed a big squad turnover. I still think last year was a really good window, even in hindsight I'd put it at an 8/10, with that budget in mind. Made 2 good sales, got rid of some ageing players, and brought in some mostly young players that could play a more progressive style of football than those players we had before.
This window so far I'm also putting at an 8/10. The final additions to beef up the squad will make it a 9/9.5, and if we do that and Stansfield is one of them it's a 10. We've had the same job to do, move on the older players we had and bring in new players capable of playing a style whilst also getting us out of League One. We still really need another striker, and a backup right back, or just 2 injuries would have a huge impact on our season.
Time will tell if we're sat revising our scores for this window. But right now I think we're doing fantastic business and spending our money well, the last few pieces to the puzzle should make it a slightly better window than the last, and the best I can remember in my life of watching us.
