Training camp can be intense, especially when the pads come on, which the Bears will do for the first time on Friday. This will increase the intensity even further. However, there’s a golden rule in training camp and season practices: never touch the quarterback.
Despite this rule, some habits are hard to break. Montez Sweat learned this firsthand on Thursday. During an 11-on-11 period, Sweat made contact with Caleb Williams while stripping the ball from him. Realizing his mistake, Sweat immediately pointed at himself and apologized for touching the QB.
Fortunately, Williams was not injured, but this incident serves as a reminder of the need for caution at camp, especially with the pads coming on. This was a simple mistake that can and will be avoided in the future. An injury to any player, not just the quarterback, is the last thing we need as the Bears are just one week away from the Hall of Fame game against the Houston Texans.
