Flagg comes to Duke with huge expectations. Can he live up to them? We’ll know soon.
The Duke Chronicle’s latest profile is out and it’s of freshman sensation Cooper Flagg. He’s widely expected to be the star freshman in college basketball but we might have to accept the possibility that teammate Khaman Maluach may emerge as the better player. He started fairly late and has immense potential. But for now, the buzz is with Flagg, and for good reason.
Flagg is immensely promising. He’s been described by many seasoned observers as a generational talent.
He made a huge impression at Peach Jam last year and a bigger one at the Team USA Camp when he played on the Select Team and more than held his own at 17.
The Chronicle’s preview praises his offense and the improvement in his shot but questions if he’ll be able to defend smaller players.
That’s not a big concern to us. If anything, his defense has been ahead of his offense. Smoothing out his jumper will help a lot but even so, while he may not be able to guard smaller guards, he should be able to guard just about anyone else.
