Manchester United are reportedly looking to sign a new left-back this summer.
Tyrell Malacia had knee surgery last year, and it has been over 13 months since he last played in a competitive game for United.
The Netherlands international has been left out of the squad for their pre-season tour of the United States as he continues his recovery.
Luke Shaw is an excellent option, but fitness issues limited him to just 12 Premier League starts last season.
The Red Devils are reportedly keen to sign former Barcelona star Marcos Alonso, but journalist Fabrizio Romano has refuted the rumours.
“We had rumours about some players,” he said on his YouTube channel. “As of today, Marcos Alonso’s camp has not received any approach from Man United. No negotiations.”
Alonso’s name is unlikely to excite United fans as he is well past his best.
The left-back made over 200 senior appearances for Chelsea and won the Champions League and Premier League trophies during his time there.
However, he has failed to make an impact at Barcelona after joining the club in 2022.
The 33-year-old was limited to just five La Liga appearances last term and was allowed to leave at the end of his contract.
Signing him wouldn’t involve a transfer fee, which could be tempting to United.
