Alan Hutton thinks Tottenham are a ‘massive club’ these days and the kind of players they are being linked with shows they are trying to reach the ‘next level’.
HITC reported in July that Tottenham and Chelsea had both been offered Karim Adeyemi by Borussia Dortmund, with new manager Nuri Sahin allegedly not a fan of the 22-year-old.
Chelsea, West Ham, Newcastle and Tottenham were all said to be keen on the German attacker, who reached the Champions League final with Dortmund last season.
This comes as Spurs are known to be in the market for a new striker this summer, following the departure of Harry Kane to Bayern Munich last year (Football.London).
Alan Hutton believes a player like Adeyemi would suit Ange Postecoglou’s tactics at Tottenham down to the ground, due to his all-action and direct style of play.
He also added that Spurs are showing how much they want to reach the ‘next level’ by the quality of players they are being linked with this summer.
He told Football Insider: “He’s [Adeyemi] a nightmare for defenders. He gives your full-back a sleepless night, he’s one of those guys who’s very direct, he’s pacy, can go both ways.
“[He] really gets the fans excited, so I’m not surprised that this is what they’re looking at.
“The style of football that Tottenham plays, that’s what it’s like, it’s all action; all gung-ho, get at them and score as many goals as you want, so it doesn’t really surprise me.
“Again, it will come down to costs and fees and wages and things like that and if they can get something done.
“Tottenham are a massive club, and you can tell with the names that they’re going for that they’re really looking to take it to the next level.”
Spurs Web Opinion:
Adeyemi would be a great signing for Spurs this summer, but I suspect he would cost too much and Tottenham need to prioritise other kinds of reinforcements.
I would much prefer putting £40m or so on Ivan Toney, who can bring Tottenham’s wingers into play a little more than someone like Adeyemi.
