In the episode, which originally aired in 2020, James met with a guest named Janette.
She had brought along a blue platinum shank diamond ring to be assessed.
She was selling the jewellery in hopes of earning some extra cash to go on holiday.
Upon meeting, James suggested the ring had a royal connection.
He asked: “That is one of the most fashionable types of ring at the moment because who do you know that wore a ring like that?”
Janette guessed Princess Diana, but said she didn’t think the type of ring was as popular nowadays.
However, James revealed the ring is similar in style to the one Prince William gave Kate Middleton.
Before the piece went up for auction, the expert estimated it would be worth between £300 to £500.
Host Paul Martin asked Janette why she was selling the ring, as she replied: “It’s just sitting in a jewellery box doing nothing, I think it’s a shame.
“I think someone needs to wear it, show it off.
“It’s going towards a holiday.”
In the end, Janette was thrilled after her ring sold for £480.
Earlier in the episode, the guest shared how the valuable came to be in her possession.
Janette explained: ““It’s my aunties ring, she got it for Christmas then my grandad died not long after.
” I was very supportive when she was upset so she said she would leave the ring for me. It’s very sentimental to me.
“I’ve had it for 24 years so I think it’s time it went to someone.”
Flog It! is available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
