Showers to move across UK before skies clear in London for a warm weekend
After yesterday’s brief stint of warmer weather across the United Kingdom, rain showers have moved back in.
Londoners woke up to cloudy skies and some drizzle today, which could turn into heavier rain showers as the day goes on.
And temperatures will remain relatively cool, hitting a high of 20°C in the capital, 18°C in Brighton, 22°C in Manchester, 21°C in Newcastle, and a balmy 19°C in Edinburgh.
Met Office meteorologist Alex Deakin said: ‘With the wet weather coming, we’ll get a lot of low cloud mist, murky conditions to start off with on Thursday, and also some warm and humid air.
‘Wet weather is going to affect the south counties of England, starting off in the south west, moving to the south east, some heavy bursts of rain mixed up with that eventually spreading up towards East Anglia by the end of Thursday.’
But don’t fret – warmer and brighter weather will return soon.
The UV index is expected to be very high on Friday as the sun peeks out in London – so be sure to put on some SPF.
Temperatures will hit 24°C in London on Friday, bringing a bright, warm end to a rather tumultuous week weather-wise.
And the pleasant weather will likely hold out for the weekend, with a mixture of sunny spells and showers predicted – but mostly dry across the UK.
Met Office meteorologist Craig Snell said the weather will settle again going into the weekend and next week.
He added: ‘It won’t be wall-to-wall sunshine and we’ll see rain in the north on Monday and the rest of the country on Thursday.

‘It also won’t be as hot as recent days but warmer than the start to July. It will be an improvement.
‘Overall, the south east and south are likely to see the warmest temperatures next week.’
So far this summer, the UK has seen consistent low pressure systems bringing heavy winds, clouds, rain and thunderstorms, and bang average temperatures.
