PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) -- A man died Tuesday after he was taken into custody on outstanding warrants, authorities said.
The Linn County Sheriff's Office said they spotted Jacob Reginald Bliss, 49, driving in Brownsville. According to officials, he was wanted for several outstanding warrants including probation violations and failing to appear in court on drug and gun charges.
When Bliss was found, authorities said he stopped his car and attempted to run on foot and deputies chased him over fences, across a creek, and through brush until eventually, he stopped running.
Officials said that within minutes of taking Bliss into custody, he complained about having trouble breathing and then collapsed.
Deputies said they attempted life-saving measures, but they were unsuccessful and Bliss died at the scene.
The incident is under investigation as the police department works to uncover the cause of death.
