Lockheed Martin inks deals for SPY-7 radar manufacturing
Lockheed Martin has awarded Indra, Escribano Mechanical and Engineering, and ICM (Integral de Conexión y Montajes, S.L.) purchase orders for AN/SPY-7(V)2 components on the F-110 frigate.
As part of Lockheed Martin’s commitment to expanding its international supply chain, these purchase orders aim to integrate Spain into the company’s global SPY-7 supply chain, enhancing resiliency and expanding production capacity.
The company and Spanish industry has worked together to produce over 90 watercoolers and auxillary equipment, 30,000 cables,1.8M power supplies, and microelecontric and RF components for the global SPY-1 fleet. The partners worked on radar development and naval and airborne computing systems.
“These strategic collaborations empower local industries, strengthen communities, and drive economic growth, all while providing the most advanced defense capabilities for 21st Century Security,” said Amr Hussein, vice president of Multi-Domain Combat Solutions at Lockheed Martin.
“By incorporating Spanish industry into radar production, we are committing to diversify our supply chain and add capacity that enhances our global supply chain.”
The Spanish Navy’s F-110 frigates are multi-purpose escort vessels, with anti-aircraft, anti-surface and anti-submarine capabilities that will enable them to perform their force protection and naval projection functions. These ships, which are intended to operate in combination with other units, make them versatile platforms that can perform maritime security-related functions.
The design of this new frigate includes advanced technological features, such as an integrated mast with different sensor and antenna solutions, a multi-mission space that expands the ship’s capabilities in all defence segments and a new hybrid propulsion plant, more efficient and silent, giving the ship great versatility.
Spanish shipbuilder Navantia held a steel-cutting ceremony for the first F-110 frigate in April 2022.
