PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) -- Interstate 84 in Eastern Oregon has reopened after several closures both overnight and on Tuesday due to the Durkee Fire encroaching on the road.
The fire, which is still active in the area, forced a closure late Tuesday, but the road re-opened around 7:30 a.m. Wednesday, officials announced.
Drivers are still being warned to avoid the area and the Oregon Department of Transportation said that more closures on the road are expected.
Drivers heading through that area are encouraged to take Route 20 to avoid Interstate 84.
As of Wednesday morning, the Durkee Fire is listed at 244,842 acres and still spreading.
