The betting public loves Deion Sanders and the Colorado Buffaloes. That’s not a secret.
Before the ink could even dry on Sanders’ contract as the team’s head coach last year, Colorado was one of the most-bet teams to win a national championship.
That, of course, did not come to fruition, as the Buffaloes managed to win just four games. But bettors are apparently undeterred. After already making Colorado the biggest liability at BetMGM to win the Big 12, they’re also hammering Sanders’ squad to make the College Football Playoff.
That’s right. Colorado is BetMGM’s biggest liability in the CFP market too. Though five teams have attracted more money than Colorado at 4.1%, the Buffaloes’ +2000 odds to make the playoff are by far the longest. And no team has a higher ticket percentage than Colorado at 8.6%.
And that right there, my friends, is called throwing money away.
Even with the playoff expanding to 12 team this year, the most optimistic among us about Colorado and quarterback Shedeur Sanders have a hard time envisioning a team that went 4-8 with glaring roster deficiencies making the CFP just a year later.
Apparently, we’re the fools, because bettors didn’t stop there.
Colorado is also the second-biggest liability to win the national championship behind Ohio State. Which makes no sense when you consider the Buckeyes are +700 to win the natty while the Buffs are +20000.
Despite the odds, Colorado is fourth in tickets at 5.1% and sixth in handle at 4.1%. Why are so many people betting on a team the books are literally telling you doesn’t have a shot? The world may never know.
