Paris: India archers will be aiming to break the elusive medal jinx in Paris when the likes of Deepika Kumari, Tarundeep Rai and others take the field on July 25 at the Esplanade des Invalides. For the first time after the 2012 London Olympics, India will be having a full six-member squad in both men’s and women’s categories. That means India will have a chance to grab a medal in all five Archery events.
Veterans Tarundeep and Deepika, appearing in their fourth Olympics, will lead their young teammates, hoping to secure at least a top-10 finish in the qualification round to ensure a favourable draw. Each archer will shoot 72 arrows and the scores in the qualification round of 128 athletes from 53 countries will decide the seeds for the main knockout competition beginning on Sunday.
While the Olympics will officially start on July 26, but events like Football and Rugby Sevens will have matches from July 24 itself. However, no Indians will be in action on July 24. India will begin their campaign on July 25 with archers taking the centre stage in the qualification rounds.
