Mariners Game #103 Preview: 7/23/24, LAA @ SEA

Gary A. Vasquez-USA TODAY Sports

Logan looks to drag the Mariners to victory

Last night’s Mariners game left fans, managers, and players in a sour mood. The past two days have seen the triple whammy loss of Julio, J.P., and Ty France, a combo that, to put it mildly, has harshed the vibe.

Yet baseball marches on. The Mariners will play the Angels tonight in the second of this three game set. Including today, there are sixty games left in the season. And the Mariners are tied for the lead. As Bryce Miller put it, the Mariners need to treat it as a new season, starting at 0-0. Only then will they be able to move forward, play loose, and win games.

Lineups:

Logan Gilbert will be on the mound today, making his first start since the All-Star break. Logan has the lowest WHIP and 9th lowest ERA in baseball with 0.869 and 2.79 respectively. Tonight marks his 10th career start against the Angels, a team that he has historically carved up. He’s also 4 strikeouts away from tying James Paxton for 11th in the all-time Mariners leaderboard, so keep an eye out for that tonight.

Lineup-wise, there’s been a lot of roster churn since the start of yesterday’s game, so we’re getting a new look. Jason Vosler is making his first start as a Mariner. The 30-year-old has been in the game for a while and will hopefully be able to put together some competitive ABs. The M’s are also starting Locklear and Marlowe since bringing them up to add some depth. It’s a very young roster tonight, even with Rojas and Vosler, so perhaps the kids will bring some energy into a stagnant offense.
