The Iberia Visa Signature® Card earns rewards that can take you just about anywhere. The points you accrue with this card can be used for flights on American Airlines, Alaska Airlines, Qatar Airways, and many more.
The card is currently offering a sizable welcome bonus, and it's a good pick if Avios are part of your points and miles strategy — but be sure to look at other elevated credit card welcome offers as well if you prefer flexibility.
The Iberia Visa Signature® Card comes with a $95 annual fee and does not charge any foreign transaction fees. You can get a 10% discount on flights when you use your card to book at Iberia.com/Chase10, and you can also get a $1,000 airfare discount voucher each year you spend $30,000 or more on your card, though the voucher is only valid when you book two tickets on the same flight.
It's important to note that this card is restricted by Chase's 5/24 rule, meaning you won't be approved if you've opened five or more credit cards in the last 24 months across all issuers (most small-business cards don't count towards this total).
This means that you need to seriously consider not only whether this is a good offer, but whether earning Avios is the best option for your points and miles strategy.
If you prefer earning flexible points but still want the ability to use Avios, you could consider opening a card that earns transferable Chase Ultimate Rewards® points, because all three of these airlines are Chase transfer partners. For example, the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card is currently offering a bonus of 60,000 bonus points after you spend $4,000 on purchases in the first three months from account opening — and with this card, you'll have more options for redeeming rewards.
Do you know what "Avios" are?
While you might know them as the frequent flyer currency of major Oneworld airline British Airways, Avios are also used by some of its sister airlines — namely, Iberia, Aer Lingus, and Qatar Airways. Each airline has a slightly different flavor of Avios for its particular loyalty program, but you can transfer your Avios from one program to another. This gives you more flexibility when it comes time to redeem, but it means you need to learn the pros and cons of three separate programs to get the most bang for your buck.
This card now offers an intro bonus of 75,000 Avios after you spend $5,000 on purchases within the first three months of account opening. That's worth an average of 97500 in travel, per Insider's points and miles valuations. However, if you understand the best ways to use Avios, you can get significantly more value from them.
As an example, I recently used 85,000 Avios to book a one-way business class seat to the Maldives on Qatar Airways. This flight can otherwise cost around $3,000. If you were to use the Avios you accrue from this card bonus in a similar way, you could quite easily get thousands of dollars in value.
In addition to this card's bonus, you'll earn:
These categories aren't terribly useful to help you rack up rewards for everyday spending. For this reason, we recommend using a card whose points transfer to Iberia — and also offer more broad bonus categories, such as the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card.
While the Avios you earn with this card will be linked to your Iberia Plus frequent flyer account, remember that you can transfer them to Aer Lingus or British Airways, though you'll rarely if ever want to use the latter option.
British Airways Avios is the best program for most people to use most of the time, though it does come with some notable downsides (like high taxes on many award tickets). Both of these programs price award flights based on the distance of each leg. That means flights from New York to Madrid will be cheaper than those originating in Los Angeles.
The important takeaway is that Avios tend to be better for short or medium-haul flights.
Since moving to Miami, one of my favorite uses of Avios has been to book American Airlines flights to the Caribbean. As long as the flight is under 1,151 miles in distance, you'll pay just 9,000 Avios each way, which is an absolute steal. This is also a great way for me to get home to see my family in Washington, DC, for free.
The award calendar is split up into peak and off-peak dates, with off-peak economy awards from the East Coast to Europe starting as low as 17,000 Avios each way. In business class, expect to pay just 34,000 Avios for those same shorter off-peak flights, but even under peak dates pricing tops out at a very reasonable 62,500 Avios from the West Coast.
Most of the benefits you'll find on the Iberia Visa Signature® Card are specific to travel on Iberia Airlines, but they're quite different from the garden variety "free checked bag and priority boarding" that come with most US airline cards.
One of the easiest ways to offset the card's $95 annual fee is by taking advantage of the 10% flight discount, available when you book through iberia.com/Chase10 and pay with your Iberia card. Even if you don't fly Iberia frequently, using this benefit just once a year may be enough to fully recoup the fee.
If you spend $30,000 or more a year on your Iberia Visa Signature® Card, you'll earn a $1,000 travel voucher in return. This voucher is only valid when purchasing two tickets on the same Iberia flight, so it really works out to a discount of $500 per person.
If you're able to earn and redeem this voucher consistently, it amounts to an extra 3.3% back on your first $30,000 of spending each year, making the Iberia Visa Signature® Card a much more compelling option in terms of its earn rate.
If your luggage is delayed for six hours or more, you could be reimbursed for essential purchases (like clothing and toiletries) up to $100 per day for up to three days.
Also, if baggage belonging to you or your immediate family is lost or damaged by the carrier, you can receive up to $3,000 per passenger.
You can use this card outside of the US without incurring foreign exchange fees (which often hover around 3% of your purchases). This can save you a lot of money, depending on how much you spend during your international trips.
If you purchased an eligible item with the Iberia Visa Signature® Card and it gets damaged or stolen within 120 days of purchase, you could be eligible for up to $500 in reimbursement per claim, and up to $50,000 per account.
You'll also receive an additional year to most warranties of three years or less.
You'll receive a free one-year DashPass membership, which gives you unlimited deliveries with $0 delivery fees and reduced service fees for eligible orders. You'll then be automatically enrolled in a paid DashPass membership if you don't cancel. You must activate this offer by December 31, 2024.
The $95 annual fee on the Iberia Visa Signature® Card is fairly reasonable, especially once you factor in the current welcome bonus. Again, the card has no foreign transaction fees, making it a solid choice to take on the road with you.
You can of course expect to pay fees for things like balance transfers, late payments, returned payments, and cash advances. And if you carry a balance, there's a 21.49% - 28.49% Variable APR.

You don't have to fly on Iberia for the Iberia Visa Signature® Card to serve your travel goals. Iberia Avios can be used for lots of other airlines, including American Airlines, Alaska Airlines, British Airways, Qatar Airways, and many more. Of course, the card is most valuable for those who fly on Iberia, as it provides a handful of Iberia-specific benefits such as a 10% discount.
You can transfer Amex Membership Rewards points, Bilt Rewards, and Chase Ultimate Rewards points directly to Iberia. You can also transfer Capital One miles to British Airways and then onto Iberia — and you can transfer Citi ThankYou points to Qatar Airways, then onto British Airways, and then onto Iberia.
Chase issues the Iberia Visa Signature® Card.
For any travel credit card, you'll generally need a good credit score at the very least (a FICO score of at least 670). We recommend you not apply unless your credit score is at least 700 to give yourself the best odds.
We compared the Iberia Visa Signature® Card against other competing airline credit cards that are valuable to US travelers. Based on its annual fee, welcome bonus, and ongoing benefits, we've arrived at a card rating of 3.95 stars out of 5 stars.
