LOVE Island star Demi Jones has sparked a flurry of worry after posing for some new bikini pictures while on holiday.
Demi, 26, stripped to a yellow string two-piece for the mini photo shoot after jetting abroad for a summer break.
But after posting the shots on social media, fans quickly spotted a detail that really concerned them.
Demi appears to have burned herself in the sunshine and her skin is red and sore-looking around her triangle bikini top.
Just three years ago, Demi was diagnosed with a rare thyroid cancer and she underwent an operation to remove a golf ball-sized tumour.
The star also had a full thyroidectomy, which meant her entire thyroid was removed.
Given her past brush with cancer, Demi’s fans are particularly concerned about her apparent sunburn.
One worried follower wrote in the comments on Demi’s grid: “Why is someone who’s already had a cancer scare not looking after their skin more?”
Another agreed: “Exactly what I was wondering.”
A third penned: “So irresponsible…especially as someone who has had cancer.”
And someone else urged Demi: “Please use sun cream!”
Demi found fame in the 2020 series of Love Island and viewers had already spotted something unusual from her appearance on telly.
Fans insisted they could see a lump in her neck and began messaging her on social media.
Demi later revealed in a video with Cancer Research UK: “I remember when I came out of Love Island I got my phone back and obviously your phone just blows up, doesn’t it?”
“Quite a few people had messaged me and said they’d seen the lump on my neck.”
Demi dismissed it at the time, as she was busy sitting her final year exams at university and she didn’t think it could be anything sinister.
But in May 2021, the star was diagnosed with thyroid cancer after her mum urged her to go to the doctors.
Demi recalled going into the consultation thinking she’d “be absolutely fine”.
What is the thyroid for? The thyroid makes and releases hormones and developing cancer there can be quite rare, according to Cancer Research UK.
How many people are diagnosed a year? Around 3,900 people are diagnosed with it in the UK each year and it’s more common in women than men.
What are the symptoms of thyroid cancer? Initial symptoms can include a lump in your neck. Other symptoms can include a hoarse voice that lasts for more than three weeks and a sore throat and difficulty swallowing that doesn’t get better.
Remember: These symptoms could be caused more mundane conditions – but it’s important to get them seen to by a doctor, as the earlier a cancer is detected the easier it will be to treat.
But to her shock, she was told the golf-ball sized lump was a rare cancer, affecting the small butterfly shaped gland that sits in the hollow between the collarbones.
Speaking five months after her diagnosis, Demi said: “I went on my own and I thought I’d be absolutely fine. I didn’t think it was ever actually going to happen to me.
“My consultant got straight to the point, sat down and said, ‘Demi, I’m really sorry but you have cancer’.
“I remember leaving the hospital room and I got into my car and I just sat down and I was crying so much because it just actually hit me.
“Even though it’s a treatable cancer, I still felt like, what could this do? Is this going to kill me? Am I going to be really poorly?”
Demi underwent surgery to get rid of the cancerous lump, followed by a full thyroidectomy which removed her entire thyroid.
She also had radiation treatment to ensure any remaining cancer cells were removed.
The star has a small scar on her neck from her ordeal, but she said: “Even though I’ve got this scar, it’s a small price to pay.
“I feel like so many people would love to be in my position right now, so I’m thinking myself as really lucky. ”
Demi celebrated being cancer free in December 2021.
In the same month, she took part in ITV1’s The Real Full Monty alongside a host of celebrities affected by cancer.
