BALLSTON SPA, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- The Saratoga County Fair kicked off Tuesday with the familiar favorites. Rides and fried food are aplenty on the grounds in Ballston Spa, but agriculture and family are at the center of this long-held tradition.
The Saratoga County Fair goes back to 1841, and pre-dates most agricultural fairs in New York State.
You may know King Brothers Dairy in Schuylerville for their old-fashioned milk delivery, and their farm store with homemade ice cream. This week, they're in the barn at the fair, showing spectators a different side of their work.
"I love agriculture, I love the dairy industry, and I'm so excited to talk to people about it," said Hannah King, a fifth-generation family member in the business.
King is especially excited to show off "Sassy," her red heifer that was born last year.
"It takes a lot of patience and time to get them ready to walk," King said. "[We're] pretty close friends now, and I'm really excited to show her on Wednesday and Friday."
The Saratoga County Fair runs through Sunday. Tickets are $15 for adults, and free for kids 12 and under. Senior and veteran discounts are available.
